On My Way To Somewhere Else

eating up highway
the darkness daring my headlights
to find any sign of life along the sides of the road
any flash of movement in the still-life
but no
there is nothing
I am alone
truly alone
rumbling through the immense deserted night
white lines one after another
relentlessly gobbled into an insatiable gullet
with only the drone of the engine to soothe
my brooding lonesome funk
shooting out of the shadows
into an endless night
on my way to somewhere else.
