Turn Your Lights Down Low
(written by Bob Marley)
turn your lights down low
and pull your window curtains
oh let Jah moon come shining in
into our life again
I’m sayin’ ooo, it’s been a long, long time
I kept this message for you, girl
but it seems I was never on time
still I wanna get thru to you, girl
I want to give you some love
I want to give you some good, good loving
oh I, oh I, oh I
I want to give you some good, good loving
turn your lights down low
never ever try to resist, oh no
oh let my love come tumbling in
into our life again
I’m saying, ooo I love you
and I want you to know right now
ooo, I love you
and I want you to know right now
that I want to give you some love
I want to give you some good, good loving
I want to give you some love
I want to give you some good, good loving
turn your lights down low
never ever try to resist, oh no
oh let my love come tumbling in
into our life again
(tag by Chuck Perrin)
no matter what goes on in this screwed up world
now that I’ve found you
I’ll never leave your side
I’ll always be right here for you
cause you and me together
is the only thing that makes sense.
Turn Your Lights Down Low
About This Song:
On this song, my goal was to try to capture the intensity of passionate intimacy. Bob Marley’s direct lyrical poetry just drips with it. The track was gorgeously orchestrated by Cliff Almond; his drums are beat perfect, the acoustic guitar is insistent and throbbing, and Dave Curtis’ bass is simple and locked in the pocket. I asked tenor saxophone master Hollis Gentry to make his solos match this gentle push intensity. It was the last solo he recorded, before an automobile accident a few weeks later robbed him of his ability to play. His solos are exquisite. It is almost like he knew his time was short. He laid all of his emotions out there, reminding us that right now – this very moment – is all we really have. (Life goes by way too fast . . . rest in peace, my dear friend.) When the strings come in, right before his second solo, it’s like standing in a warm summer rain shower. This is a track for making love. It says what needs to be said. Listen to it loud and let it wash over you.
