Chain Of Choices
you won’t admit it
but I know you must be scared
I can see behind your eyes
you’re carrying a heavy load
I wish I could tell you
everything will always
work out like you want
sometimes it won’t
I wish I could tell you
that no one will ever
disappoint or leave you
lost and alone
life is a
chain of choices
some are good
some are not
but the trick is
to keep on choosing
and make the best
of what you’ve got
Chain Of Choices
About This Song:
I wrote this song on the day my daughter called and told me she was going to have a baby. She was not married, and her boyfriend was on his way back to prison for some illegal white collar meanderings. When you have a child, it is such a highly charged relationship – you’re protective, but at the same time your responsibility is to instill in them the confidence to be on their own, to handle things their own way. You’re holding out your arms to ward off bad stuff, all the while reminding yourself that there is really nothing you can do but offer unconditional love and emotional support.
It turns out there was really nothing more I needed to do. She had her baby and is handling raising him on her own. Her son is a pristine copy of her, special in every imaginable way.
