hope (remembering Carl Sandburg) - dec 20th, 2012
we’re drifting down this wide river
where no one has been before
through unexplored country
wild – often stupidly violent
and fearful, but mostly beautiful
intimate and nurturing
harmoniously brilliant and sleek
yet sometimes obsequious and so silly
thick with scores of frightened sleepwalkers
who ask no questions
and only take what comes
eternal hobos we
zig we zag
around the satisfied
poling our way down our mighty mississip
guided by shovels above of blinking stars
brandishing our SOS
some things are not right
but since our hearts have
found the right place
we know we’ll get there
there’s no doubt we can make it
h a p p e n
it just takes time
