Commencement
Chris Ince/Chuck Perrin)
I’m traveling fast
I can hardly believe my speed
when I’m there at last
will I know why I had to leave
time is the only horoscope I take
if it’s not what I want
then it’s easy to fake
there ain’t no time
just space till I come around
but I don’t mind
if I know what it is I’ve found
I don’t know why this has happened to me
I can’t decide if I want to be free
I can make it back home any day
but if I do will I want to stay?
I got no hopes
for what I’ll find out there
I’d turn back now
but I’m almost too far to care
but I got my mind and that’s all that I need
it’s shut up tight to the cries I can’t heed
I can make it back home any day
but if I do will I want to stay ?

About This Song:
We went into Jerry Milam’s Golden Voice Studios in South Pekin, Illinois on a Saturday morning December 14, 1968 to record our first album. It was just the two of us, along with friend Chris White, who we recruited to play bass. This was the first song we recorded. Jerry used the huge plate reverb that he had built himself to create the unique sonic space where this song lives. It is a magical take.
